in association with the book 'Soap: The Inside Story…'
Many thanks to Cathryn Damon fan Wade for sending me scans from his collection of clippings and photos; I think the “Skipper” fans among you will really appreciate these.
I posted a Soap Opera Digest piece from the collection here earlier today; the rest will be posted when time permits.
Also, check out three Los Angeles Times pieces, also courtesy of Wade.
Thanks for this- nice to get some insight from Ms. Damon, who departed for another world too early.
Cheers for that. Yes, we’ve lost quite a few, haven’t we.
Yes we have. And, oops- I thought my original post didn’t post!
Thanks for this. Nice to hear some insight from Ms. Damon, who departed for another world too soon. Hopefully she talks more about “Soap” in future clippings posts.
I haven’t read through them all yet — we shall find out together
[Gulp] Why was Catherine called Skipper? I really don’t know. Thanks in advance to anyone who gives me the answer.
I’m sure the Cathryn fans will be quick to add the details, but I believe it was because there were at least two other Catherines (of various spellings) in her family — mother and grandmother, if memory serves — and her family called her “Skipper” as a nickname. But again, gang, please feel free to correct/expound on this.
I believe Cathryn was coined “Skipper” by her father, who had wanted a boy, and the nickname just stuck.
Thank you for the clarification, Erin
Actually, it looks like it was her grandfather who gave her the nickname. I was just taking another look at our “mystery publication”: http://soaparchive.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/scan0010.jpg

What an amazing collection of pictures and articles of Skipper!!! Thank you Wade for sharing these!!!
I second that, Wade
